School Nursing Service

School Nursing Service - South Locality

The school health team is a mixed team of nursery nurses, staff nurses and specialist practitioner school nurses.

The team supports school aged children, young people and families with their health needs. The team also supports teachers and schools to manage health needs and the healthy schools programme.

The school nurse can support children with special needs and complex medical needs, offer immunisations, provide a private and confidential service, support parents with their children’s health, promote healthy lifestyle options, help children in need and is able to make referrals to specialists.

The school nurse can help with a range of medical issues, for example:

  • soiling
  • bedwetting
  • emotional wellbeing
  • diabetes
  • epilepsy
  • asthma
  • allergies
  • sleep
  • growth and development
  • physical disabilities
  • eating problems, etc.
