The Curriculum at Fircroft
Our curriculum is at the heart of all we do at Fircroft – it is what drives our ‘Confident, creative community’. It is our intent that every pupil experiences a broad, balanced and creative curriculum which equips them with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue their interests and inspires lifelong learning.
We believe pupils learn best when they are able to make connections between different subject areas so each term’s learning is organised around a theme. Through these themes, across each year, pupils will be taught the knowledge and skills they need to develop as scientists, historians, geographers, artists and designers. Each theme is launched with an ‘Engage event’ designed to capture pupils’ interest and culminates in an ‘Express’ event in which pupils share and celebrate their learning with each other and their families.
Our English curriculum is also linked to our learning themes, through the careful selection of high quality texts. Whenever it is appropriate, links are also made with our mathematical learning and opportunities created for pupils to apply their computing skills and knowledge.
Both our school community and our wider community are an integral part of our curriculum as we seek to draw on the expertise of the whole school community and make the most of all local opportunities to both enrich our pupils’ experience and provide them with a meaningful context for their learning.
