Energetic, Exciting, Exhausting!
These are just three words that Year 5 children used to describe today's Express Event to cap off a fantastic first half term. In the beautiful, autumnal weather this morning, Year 5 ran the length of Trevelyan Road to conclude their Local Heroes topic and to commemorate the spectacular achievement of Albert Hill - the first Briton to win double gold medals in the same Olympic Games for the 800m and 1500m middle distance athletics events. They also stopped off and had a look at the house where Albert Hill was brought up and spoke to its current owner.

Home Learning:
We have set home learning for the half term break to further reinforce spelling, reading, mathematics and English. We hope that everyone can ready at least 5 times of the two weekends and the half term holiday week.
The children are clearly eager to learn about Pharaohs and life in Ancient Egypt and we hope they love this new topic as much as our Local Heroes topic stimulated discussion in class. Several children also asked if they could create a poster or a 3-D representation related to our new topic, which we are happy to have brought in at the start of the new half term; this is completely optional.
Handwriting Revision:
We have given the children lists of the Year 3-6 statutory spelling words, which have been typed in cursive writing. We recommended to the children that they practise writing these words in their best cursive script so that they can earn a pen licence and for those children with pen licences, we suggested they practise spelling these commonly-misspelled words.
This was to replace the additional handwriting sheet, which we will resume after half term.
