Wednesday 31 March 2021 Year 1 Blog- 31st March 2021 A huge welldone to both children and parents for making it through what has been a challenging term! The children have settled back into school life remarkably well and have enjoyed being back together for their learning. They have worked really hard but have had a fun and exciting end to the term!

Thursday 17 December 2020 Year 1's Christmas fun! We have had an exciting week of Christmas celebrations! The children enjoyed their Christmas lunch and crazy Christmas party. They also enjoyed a Christmas film and popcorn (at 09:30 in the morning...!)Â

Friday 20 November 2020 Year 1 Blog Friday 20th November 2020 Another exciting week in Year 1! In Maths we have been continuing to develop our understanding of adding two numbers together to make a whole number. We have learnt the term 'number bond' and have been practising finding all the number bonds for numbers up to 10. To help our accuracy we have been learning how to find number bonds systematically.Â

Friday 13 November 2020 Year 1 Blog- 13th November 2020 Year 1 have had another busy week! On Monday, the children had a shock when they returned to their classrooms after lunch to find it had been destroyed! After checking the classroom's 'CCTV', they watched footage of a dinosaur wandering around the classroom! A letter had been left from Terry T-Rex, who apologised for knocking things over with their long tail! They had visited Year 1 to drop-off their favourite book 'A T-Rex comes to Town', and asked the children to write some stories for them to read to their T-Rex babies! Therefore, this week the children have been hard at work writing stories about their own dinosaur who visits Fircroft!Â

Friday 2 October 2020 Year 1 Blog- 2nd October It's been another busy week in Year one! On Monday, the results from our School Councillor, Eco-Councillor and Reading Ambassador elections were announced. All of the children listened carefully to the candidates' reasons for putting themselves forward, and took voting very seriously! Welldone to those who have been selected and to all the children who volunteered to stand as candidates.

Friday 25 September 2020 Year 1 Autumn Walk We have had another busy week in Year 1. In English, we have continued our work on Cloudland. This week the children wrote a postcard pretending to be Albert and described what 'he' had been up to in Cloudland! To develop their writing further they have also been learning about adjectives and they have come up with a range of fantastic describing words which they are now being encouraged to use in their writing.Â

Friday 18 September 2020 Year 1 Blog w/b 14th September It has been another great week in Year 1. The children have loved reading our focus text 'Cloudland' about a little boy called Albert who is saved by the cloud children. They learned how to predict what might happen in the story. Working in groups, the children developed their drama skills to retell the story. We are attaching a letter formation worksheet and high frequency word worksheet should you wish to practice these at home.Â

Friday 11 September 2020 Year 1's First week! Year 1 have had a fantastic week back at school! It's been lovely to meet our classes and for everyone to see their friends and settle back into the school routine. This week, we have enjoyed starting our new topic 'Splendid Skies' and started by learning about the different seasons. In our D&T lesson, the children thought about the ways that trees change and created season trees to reflect this.
